My vessels exist on the border between functional ceramics, for use in food presenation, and sculptures. I am interested in this duality, this middle ground, because of which the vessel includes both the obvious usefulness as well as symbolic content. One example is the work Body of Light, as are the stoneware jars pictured below, which are able to hold content, but it is ambiguous what that content could be. The useful aspect of the vessels is however still fully present, as they are always able to be used practically.
My individual ceramic works, as is true for all my opuses, are entities that are grouped into larger numbers. The numbers used have symbolic and aesthetic meanings. I am always interested in the relationship between the individual vessels within the group, as much as the work as a whole.
